A F-15SE of the 302 Hikotai from the Japanese Air Self-Defence Force (JASDF) fighting against a MiG-29C of the Korean's People Air Force (KPAF - North Korea) over the smoking city of Tokyo.
Been a while since I made a vector art project And I'm pretty happy with this due to the amount of detail I've put into it. From the markings in both Japanese and Korean to the wing condensation and the heat effect from the F-15's engines.
The city is in fact a heavily modified screenshot I took from Google Earth with all the 3-D buildings. Wasn't easy to use. Had to actually take 2 different screenshots, one in normal light and the other one in sunset mode to see how the shadows interacted with the buildings. A little bit of applying effects and the combing of both pictures to get something like you see here.
Obviusly it ain't perfect due that the screenshots I take are rather low quality when it comes to resolution. Meh... Motion blur effect would have killed any details anyway.
I'm only using Google Earth to make backgrounds when I want to add a very realistic background for my air vector pictures. I will still be doing hand made background every now and then when I feel it won't ruin the picture, or just do some speedpainting.
The planes.
This scene is obviously based in an alternative near future where Japan is under attack by it's neighbours. In that alternative universe the JASDF has begun replacing their older F-15Js and F-15DJs with the newer and stealthier F-15SEs. The 302 Hikotai is based at Hyakuri (RJAH). Not too far away from Tokyo.
The MiG-29C was painted using a couple of photos taken in mid air by a US crew as reference. Just so happens to be those photos are probably the only photos available from the North Korean MiG-29 Fulcrums. And they were not precisely good quality so I did played a bit with the colors but I hope it's accurate.
