En Los Andes by Panzerfire En Los Andes by Panzerfire
Surprise! HA! You didn't expected this one did'ya people? ;P

I couldn't finish the last drawing I wanted to finish before scanning this and another drawing and at some point I said "Aww... f*ck it! Let's scan what I already have because this one (The lineart still half-way complete) is gonna take a long while due to de-motivation".

So I scanned what I had already done and decided to work on it.

Here we see an argentine soldier holding a "pimped" FN FAL (With EOTech and foregrip and a self-made-up RIS).
The soldier is part of a larger group (off-screen) carrying out a patrol in the northern Andes in the border of former Bolivia currently under occupation of the USSR (Union of Southamerican Socialist Republics.... yeah.... go figure! :D ). Yeah obviously this is not a representation of reality... this is more like another of my fiction-based artworks. ;) (Part of my "yet-to-be put in paper" WW3 series).

Anyway... I've included a vector artwork of a AH-1Z viper (Which is not in the Argentine Army Aviation inventory.... yet anyway). I think it went rather good. This is also to kindof protest against the Army's deccision to not purchase a small fleet of AH-1 Cobras (The old versions) and instead they went to finance that new crappy helicopter known as the Aguilucho. Sin afan de ofender... pero los Cobra habrian quedado mejor como fuerza de disuación en vez de ese nuevo helicoptero ligero.

In case you're wondering... the soldier is wearing a real-life camouflage known as "Patagonia DPM" which is loosely based on the british desert DPM but still quite different from it. An expert eye will notice the differences. It took me a whole bloody morning working on that camouflage pattern.... ^^; I really should do a DPM camo brush for PhotoShop so that my job gets easier.
I considered other camo patterns for this artwork such as the modern MARPAT and the older 3-color and 6 color desert camouflage patterns from the US. But I thought showing off a rather unknown camouflage would be interesting. Here's an article about the Patagonia DPM: [link]

For this work I decided to use some special brushes to make a faster work. Not much really. I used clouds and spark brushes from brush master :iconredheadstock:

Well.... I still have one more lineart to color in PhotoShop and upload here. However after I'm done with that I'm afraid I will not be working on anything new for a while. The MW2 fanart project has really let me down big time and it's still on the table demanding me to be finished but I feel so low in morale to do so. :(

But hey.... morale can go up. ;) I hope you guys like this work. Might be the last one of this size and quality for a good while since college is going to suck away my time (That and the growing addiction to MW2 Multiplayer :iconimhappyplz:

See'ya in the Battlefield! :salute:

Well I'm glad I caught your interest.

At the moment all of this WW3 stuff can be considered as concept artwork. So far I have not had the time to make out of this project a manga (Which is what I want to do).

Hmmm, this is very good, I especially like the heli ;)

However, sorry to bring this up, but the anatomy of the soldier is a little off. His upper body looks a tad too small, or maybe that's just me :)

Anyway, excellent work. Just watch out for that anatomy, I know it's annoying ><

:iconburnsplz: You just made yourself a powerful enemy.....

Nah just kidding =P

Yeah I'm loosing practice with anatomy (I never really was good at it anyway. always something comes up). I don't think it'll improve since I've stopped drawing for a while now.

I like the CG helo, though the lighting isn't SO realistic... the prop has the same kinda problem I mentioned before, though it's slightly better here because of those lines =) I think what it is is that the gradient would actually be different based on lighting. I would have to look at some ref to tell you what was really the key, since I don't really do enough military art or mechanical stuff to know. For the most part, the human looks great also. Watch out for proportions on those arms too... looks like you might need some more foreshortening on the one holding the gun. I like the colors and layout, though the lower left corner is kinda blah. Great sky and contrast =)

Maybe never. :cries:
Ahhh so many projects I'd like to start but so little will, time and resources. :(

'Though if I eventually get around working on it, it'll be likely be a bunch of separate stories going troughout the war in a mixed order rather than staying with one single bunch of soldiers troughout the war.

Thank you very much.

Brazil in WW3 is pretty much in the same position a Argentina and Chile... fighting the USSR (Latin American version) in coordination with the US, UK, Holland and France. ('Though those NATO members won't have troops in Brazilian territory).

They're not hand made like my characters or ground vehicles.

I make a vector using a screenshot from a flight simulator. I just take a screenshot of the wirshed vehicle and the wished perspective and angle and then I start drawing the lines with the pencil tool in PhotoShop.

However the 3-D models I vectorized aren't "perfect" and they have many times some sharp edges that just don't look very realistic. So I try to fix that with the new lineart so it looks better. Other details such as panels, markings, dirt and effects are done completely independent from the original screenshot. It takes practice but it gets easier with time. :)
