Here it is! ^^
Finally I have the JGSDF drawing ready :D

If you compare this with the initial lineart you'll see that I've made some MAJOR tweaks to it.

I'm happy with the outcome but the fact that the lineart looked like shit when I finished it on paper is still unaceptable.
That is why I will do a new JSDF drawing sometime in the future.

This picture shows basically a JGSDF soldier firing a Type-89 rifle designed for the JSDF and a UH-60J flying over the forest. The helicopter as usual is a colored vector made by myself out of a screenshot.

I used the fog to cover some screw ups but also to create a cold morning enviroment. One thing that really came out pretty good are the clouds in the sky... this time they surelly look more realistic than the ones I used to make.

Ok... I have no more linearts to color right now but I'll see if i can draw something in this or next week. Next project will be MASSIVE but expect some smaller works like "The Dogfight" and "Storm Raptor" that are only vector works.

PS: I'll answer all your comments eventually. My internet conection is SH*T right now so I'm uploading this from a cyber.

See'ya in the battlefield! :salute:

how do you do your awesome effects and what program you use??
Panzerfire Featured By Owner Apr 23, 2009  Hobbyist General Artist
Like I said in my first reply, I use Adobe PhotoShop. It's a useful coloring program and I think it's one of the most popular ones.

How you do effects is not exactly something one can explain in one post. It's a matter of practice and knowing well how the different tools work.

I suggest you to practice first using brushes in different opacities. The Eraser can also be set in a different opacity. This should allow you to work on some light effects, reflections, shadows, maybe textures. I also work a lot using different layers. A layer for the background, another for the sky, the clouds, the different characters, all set in a logical order (The layer showing the object closer to the viewer) should be above all in that order. You can aply different effects to each layer in order to generate motion or gaussian blur effects (And that can make a picture look pretty awesome).

But it takes practice to get familiar with all that. It's not very complicated. Try getting PhotoShop and practice a little bit. Practice makes perfect ;)
Big and detailed projects take more time that just simple ones.

Thanks :)
That dust should actually be fog ^^;

Pretty cool! If you screwed up, I stared at the foggy spots and didn't notice.

Cool! :D The coloring is pretty good!

Hmms, I think you can do hands bigger. Just try it in a sketch; if you like, continue ^^

Do you follow any process for lineart after scanning the inked or you just scan and then color?

I actually thought the hands were big enough.... But I think the following may explain why it could looks smaller:
1 - The head with the helmet and the mask on looks bigger than it is.
2 - The perspective applied to it makes the hand look smaller than it is.
3 - Misterious reson/Unspecified.

Although they could also looks smaller since I did tweak the lineart before coloring. Here's the original lineart as i scan it: [link]
Now compare it with the outcome. I did a pretty big tweak to the lineart before coloring. Now it looks far better than when I did draw it.

I normally don't tweak my lineart but after seeing how badly it went, I decided to tweak it. ^^
However I'll try not to do it anymore unless the lineart is too screwed up.

Maybe because of the helmet.. I dont know, just that is my observation, you can ignore :D
Pic is really good.

No problem. I'll try to fix these issues on following projects. :)
