Foggy Combat by Panzerfire Foggy Combat by Panzerfire
Here it is! ^^
Finally I have the JGSDF drawing ready :D

If you compare this with the initial lineart you'll see that I've made some MAJOR tweaks to it.

I'm happy with the outcome but the fact that the lineart looked like shit when I finished it on paper is still unaceptable.
That is why I will do a new JSDF drawing sometime in the future.

This picture shows basically a JGSDF soldier firing a Type-89 rifle designed for the JSDF and a UH-60J flying over the forest. The helicopter as usual is a colored vector made by myself out of a screenshot.

I used the fog to cover some screw ups but also to create a cold morning enviroment. One thing that really came out pretty good are the clouds in the sky... this time they surelly look more realistic than the ones I used to make.

Ok... I have no more linearts to color right now but I'll see if i can draw something in this or next week. Next project will be MASSIVE but expect some smaller works like "The Dogfight" and "Storm Raptor" that are only vector works.

PS: I'll answer all your comments eventually. My internet conection is SH*T right now so I'm uploading this from a cyber.

See'ya in the battlefield! :salute:

how do you do your awesome effects and what program you use??

Like I said in my first reply, I use Adobe PhotoShop. It's a useful coloring program and I think it's one of the most popular ones.

How you do effects is not exactly something one can explain in one post. It's a matter of practice and knowing well how the different tools work.

I suggest you to practice first using brushes in different opacities. The Eraser can also be set in a different opacity. This should allow you to work on some light effects, reflections, shadows, maybe textures. I also work a lot using different layers. A layer for the background, another for the sky, the clouds, the different characters, all set in a logical order (The layer showing the object closer to the viewer) should be above all in that order. You can aply different effects to each layer in order to generate motion or gaussian blur effects (And that can make a picture look pretty awesome).

But it takes practice to get familiar with all that. It's not very complicated. Try getting PhotoShop and practice a little bit. Practice makes perfect ;)
Big and detailed projects take more time that just simple ones.

Pretty cool! If you screwed up, I stared at the foggy spots and didn't notice.

Cool! :D The coloring is pretty good!

Hmms, I think you can do hands bigger. Just try it in a sketch; if you like, continue ^^

Do you follow any process for lineart after scanning the inked or you just scan and then color?

I actually thought the hands were big enough.... But I think the following may explain why it could looks smaller:
1 - The head with the helmet and the mask on looks bigger than it is.
2 - The perspective applied to it makes the hand look smaller than it is.
3 - Misterious reson/Unspecified.

Although they could also looks smaller since I did tweak the lineart before coloring. Here's the original lineart as i scan it: [link]
Now compare it with the outcome. I did a pretty big tweak to the lineart before coloring. Now it looks far better than when I did draw it.

I normally don't tweak my lineart but after seeing how badly it went, I decided to tweak it. ^^
However I'll try not to do it anymore unless the lineart is too screwed up.

Does this mean the fights in Japan itself?
Who are they fighting?
Why?

Japan gets involved in WW3 after being attacked by N. Korean missiles. One of its cities (Kobe-OsaKa) is anihilated. This forces the Japanese goverment to participate on an active way in the war. However most combat operations of the JSDF are restricted in East Asia due to the WW2 past. After the end of the war in East Asia, The JSDF participates in the final operations against the MEC before the end of the whole war.

nuke, terma, or normal missiles?
what are the MEC?
And finally, does the war prove anything for the Japanese government and the military?

1 - A nuke.
2 - MEC stands for the Middle Eastern Coalition. It's an original faction of Battlefield 2.
3 - Not really. But in WW2 after the brits got bombed by Germany they simply would not stop fighting until the Axis were totally defeated. The same case goes in here for Japan.

Sure there are.
The beggining of operations in mainland Asia actually start with a Massive naval combat netween the Chinese and Northkorean navy VS US Navy, JMSDF, Russian navy and the Naval forces of other countries. After that, a massive amphibious assault (Like WW2 D-Day in normandy) takes palce in korea and east China while India, Taiwan and Russia launch massive ground attacks in the south-west, south-east and the north respectively.

Is there any over the top WMDs like Ace Combat?
Speaking of Ace Combat, any airforce squadrons like Razgriz or Galm?

Actually yes... there a couple of super vehicles that are gonna make some mess at some parts of the war.

And as of air force squadrons, obviously there will be many fighting in this WW3. However the main WW3 story is not gonna focus on a specific squadron but I do want tome make a story that is complementary to the WW3 one but it's be focused one a specific fictional squadron of the German Air Force (Luftwaffe).

But I love the sunshine! Amazing work on the background!
Looks like now you always add choppers or aircrafts behind the characters? =p Hehe, it's okay ^^

Yeah... It's kinda my trademark now to have drawings and aircraft vectors mixed together. =P

I have to start making drawings that are less general and focus more on specific characters or objects :)

For this picture I didn't use any cloud brushes. I only used the default ones of PS.
As from the last last picture I made which had indeed brushes I've downloaded from here I'll be giving credits to those artists whose brushes i've used. :)

Due that the JGSDF uses a "Flecktarn" pattern just like the Bundeswehr it wasn't much trouble to do it. I only had to use other colors and with a different proportion.

Hmmm... I'm not really so good to put up a tutorial. It all depends of what kind of brushes you use, the opacity and the flow you select for it. It also helps to know about the type of coloring you select (Normal, Darken, Lighten, etc). Try practicing with the brushes and you'll slowly know which ones are the best ones you can use.

Another thing you can do is download special brushes here from DevianArt. I'm planning to use quite a number of them so i can have more realistic images :)
