Helga Nadler by Panzerfire Helga Nadler by Panzerfire
I think it should be about time I formally introduce my characters. =P

Just drawing them and uploading project with them without a proper character description and introduction strikes me now as rude..... more so taking into account that I've been drawing her for well over three years.

Meet Helga Nadler. Second Leutenant (Leutnant) serving in the 633. Panzergrenadierbatallion (Mechanized Infantry Battallion). The 633rd is a part of the 50th Armored Brigade which in turn is a part of the German Army's 3rd Armored Division with Headquarters in Cologne.

Helga Nadler was born in Cologne, June 23 1997 (Please note, that the story she'll be featured in is set somewhere around the mid to late 2010s).
Helga is a girl with a can-do attitude and is always willing to prove that nothing is out of her reach. Very joyful and likes to pull jokes when someone least expects it. She's also very competitive and sometimes when she gets frustrated, she gets an ill temper. Little inmature at times but always a good friend ready to lend a hand to fellow brothers and sisters in arms.

She likes virtually any kind of Metal and Rock music and is a fan of Michael Bay films (LOL). She also enjoys sports such as Football (And I mean the real football.... not that fake rugby =P ) and Ice Hockey. She also likes teasing men......... because it's fun to see them act all goofy whenever they're in front of a pretty girl).
Also.... she can speak in Kölsch (A dialect proper from the region).

She dislikes Politics (And is overall rather ignorant about the matter), people smoking and gets very ticked off when someone tells her that women can't do anything. She's also dislikes smartasses. Often gets into arguements with superior officers.

Her weapon of choice is a G-36A2 with an EOTech and AG-36 grenade launcher. Her main transport (As usual with PzG Units) is a Schützenpanzer Puma (IFV).

And that's Helga. :)

I'll be doing more of these in the future. Well I hope so anyway. ^^; I got enough material to make one more and then I'll have to start drawing on the computer. It's not going that well I'm afraid so it's going to take time.
The next character to get an introduction like this will be Maximiliam Schneider also from the Bundeswehr. Hopefully I can work on the intros of characters of other countries.

The units mentioned here are fictitious. Their patches are made up as well. ;) The "3rd Armored Division" is roughly based on th real life 1st Armored Division of the German Army. I also should note that it being based in Cologne is also fictional. I picked that city out of need of picking one that was set in Nordrhein-Westfalen and was not already the HQ of another real life Division.
The Uniform was made following a PDF file of the German Ministry of Defence regarding Uniforms as reference. Mighty helpful I must say. I did made a couple of mistakes but I'm very happy with the way they've turned. Drawing Uniforms and trying to make them look accurate is difficult (More so if said uniform has to reflect properly the nature of the soldier wearing it.

I hope you like it. I'll get to your comments soon.

See'ya in the Battlefield! :salute:

Well yeah. That shouldnt be so surprising. Women have every position of the Germany Army open for them so if they're up for it, they can do it.

Dont think the title of the unit type can be blended with the rank. But it's allright. :D

I wonder what it would be like if she was to meet my Werewolf OC.

They would probably be even, afterall he can shape shift at will, regenerate from his wounds and carries a sword and two pistols while she has military training, can pretty much beat the crap out of everybody else and can handle just about any modern weapon.

Very strange name of her :D
I'm german and I have to say that none of the young generation has the name "Helga" anymore. But perhaps...if you like it...it's ok. Perhaps her parents are very conservative. XD
I havn't heard in my whole life of the name "Nadler".....
I know some persons named "Nagel"...that's more popular....

:D I don't wan't to critizise you...don't put it in the wrong direction please....
I was just a little confused ;-)

So one name is typical german but no longer popular and the other is..... way too odd/strange to be considered common german.

YAY! I got a unique name. ;) At least that way I ensure people will remember it. :XD:

All my OCs are anthro pokemon. Yet they are set in 2520s era with Halo-ish tech. It's a unique concept in actuallity; I've got my own fictional Federation fighting the Lylatian Republic from Star Fox. My Federation likes to use firearms and balistics while Lylat like to use energy weapons. Pretty neat huh?

You've made the same question twice. =P

Anyway, yes. As an officer she may carry a sidearm which in the Bundeswehr is the H&K P8.

Her main weapon 'though unlike most officers is the H&K G36A2 with an AG36 grenade launcher. That kind of weapon is usually given to the Grenadier member of a squadron while the Officer holds a G36A1 or A2.

HAha yeah me too. Funny thing 'though, I used to dislike those and now, they're the primadonnas of weapon optics.

And I got at least one more drawing with Helga that should be finished within the week. She's however not holding a G-36. I think I'll do that later on. ;)

Oh no. This is a hand made drawing. It's one of the last ones I've made before deciding to make the switch. I still got another 4 linearts made by hand waiting to be colored. So good stuff is still coming.

Now I've also been practicing with drawing on the computer. I think I've found a nice tool in PhotoShop that should allow me to make linearts with ease. It obviously will need the use of the mouse but it's going to be like using the mouse like a pencil or brush. It's more like setting some points and creatinglines and curves with the Pen tool. I will be practicing with that troughout the weekend. At the same time I'm preparing the intro for another OC of mine.

Im getting myself into digital art soon, mind if I ask some help from you when I need it? :P
Yeah, Ive used the Pen Tool too for my first linearts but I couldnt find the right brush for the job :S

:iconpanzerfire:
Panzerfire Featured By Owner Dec 3, 2011  Hobbyist General Artist
Well, you may want to use the pencil instead of a brush when using the pen tool. :) Make sure to do that on a new empty layer.

That way, once you have a lineart ready, you can copy it and dedicate each copy to a different part of the coloring process, one would have the base colors and others would contain different stages of the shadowing and lightning process. That's my coloring style. Extra empty layers would help define dirt or scratches or other effects you may consider necessary.

Best of all, is that this system allows for quick fixing of errors if made. PSD files may get quite heavy depending on the resolution and number of layers but it's mighty helpful to create well detailed projects with ease and correcting mistakes.
