The Days as we used to know by Panzerfire The Days as we used to know by Panzerfire
Requested by :iconkahunasniper:

Him wearing an old Battle Dress Unifom on Woodland camouflage, holding an M16A4 with M203 grenade launcher and a Pentagon MD3R tactical light. (Note: I am not sure if it's recomendable to attach a flashlight to an assault rifle while at the same time having a grenade launcher attacked to it. I am just following the requesters wish)

He is also wearing Delta Force patchs.

I used some photos he uploaded in his deviantart account to try make him look as close as the real deal is.

Next to him is Victoria lying on the HMMWV while wearing the current ('Though soon to be replaced) ACU. On her feet there's a Barret XM-109 anti-material rifle. Similar to the well known Barret M107/M82 rifle, this beauty is known for firing 25 x 59 mm grenades. Something you do not want to get hit with. =P

On top of the HMMWV there's a FN MAG Aka the M240 Machine Gun. I had to scale down a bit the MG because once I've finished inking the drawing I realized that the thing way too big. like 30-40% too big. I mean... I had draw it so big that if it had been a real weapon.... it'd be firing freacking 50. Cal. :XD:
So I scaled it down.

The Golden Brigge is located in the background so that should give you a clue of where the scene is located.

I used like usual the Pixelized camouflage from :iconxenosilence: for Victoria's ACU

The Evening sky was perhaps the most dificult part, I was using a real life photo as reference as to improve my sky painting. It didn't came out identical but it looks pretty good.

I'm quite happy with this project although I wish I could have drawn Kahunasniper and Victory with more detail. I guess including the HMMWV accidentally send the characters to a second place. ^^; My apologies.

I hope you like it. My free time has shortened again so I will be slowler at uploading stuff. No worries 'though, I still got three linearts scaned and ready to be colored (Which I shall do soon withing the next days/weeks), got another ready but unscaned and got another one in the makings.

Next project I should be uploading when finished should be :iconcyrus88:'s request.

These last two weeks have been definitively profitable so I'm in a real good mood.

PS: Oh.... and made a new and more intrusive watermark signature. :iconimhappyplz: I thought it would be time for a change :D

See'ya in the Battlefield! :salute:

I think this was the very first piece I saw done by you. I found it through Kahuna. It wasn't long after that that we became really great friends (: You know what's kind of funny? The sky, how you painted it, was my favorite part.

hehe I have to admit that when I made this picture, I used a photo as reference. But just as reference for the cloud patterns and colors. It was also the time in which I was using only the basic brushes to do my clouds. I think I could do better in the future.

I am meaning to do more sky paintings and sceneries in PhotoShop without so much technical stuff in it. ahhhh soo many ideas, projects and so no time to do them :iconfoxcryplz:

I think it's good to use reference. I know I use it sometimes to help me in my writing. We are always working to better ourselves (: And I totally understand. I wish I could write everything and magically have the capability to draw my characters. D:

Nope. I simply use the basic brush tools and I make it old style. =P

Akthough making a woodland brush would make the whole thing easier.

Dont they also put Browning M2 MG's or M-1919's on the HMMWV's?

Yes they do. But it's not all that odd that M-240s are installed on top of Humvees.

About the ACU camo, US army will replace them for the "multicam" : it's a special camoflage wich take for the human eye the dominant color of the soldier surrounding, look here [link]

On the three photos on the left it's the same uniform! Amazing isn't it? It's the camouflage that every military wished for so long! ^^
The only defect known about his camouflage capacity is that it emerges in an intense green environment, like jungles!

But for the moment, only the US troops in Afghanistan will have these news uniform, because they cost a lot more to produce than "classic" camouflage!

I'm aware of that ;)

That's why I said that the ACU was bound to be soon replaced. I like the ACU but yeah I guess it's not very useful. Multicam on the other hand looks like quite a good choice. Gotta see how can I reproduce Multicam on Photoshop without having to use someone else's brushes, Perhaps I do my own? :iconimhappyplz: 'Though maybe I can combine betwenn my Flecktarn brushes and some of the basics.

But yeah right about now the US Army in Afghanistan is set to get the new unifom.

And yes... Multicam looks like the wet dream of militaries short from getting the Optical camouflage from Ghost in the Shell. :D

Great work and the set and the vehicule. You had to work your charactre moore realistic for become the ultimate artist.

Well that depends on much you want me to "work" on character design. ;)
If it's something along the lines of "Drop that 'Rei Hiroe' style" then I shall protest. Although Rei Hiroe's style is much more realistic, looking to what I have so far accomplished, so more practice is required.

Even you're meaning developing that style to look better than it currently is then sure thing, I'm trying to do that although not always it'll be possible. For example the faces of the two characters here have roughly the size a €1 coin, so details are limited to a few basic.

Posing of the characters is definitively something I am continiusly working on. Hopefully one day I shall get them right. ^^;

I don't really speak about style. But currently your character are not at same level of quality of your set or vehicules.

For the size and the detail I no what you want to say.

But look on those drawing I've done with A4 paper:
[link]
[link]

You have to you use 0.7 or 0.5 mm pencil lead. And after you could add some other detail with photoshop.
That's what I've done my face here: [link]

But keep working and you'll make progress, b'cause you're a good artist.

Well... I have been thinking in retying to make the linearts via PhotoShop. I mean, using the original lineart as a base and then do a new on top of it with PhotoShop as to make the lines more precise, more accurate andof course allow me to put more detail on it.

It'd be much better if I could scan my drawings in Pencil as a JPG and skip the whole inking process. But the place wher I go to scan my drawings scans and saves my drawings in a black and white .tiff format. The only way my drawings can look good with that is if I ink them. In pencil it'd look of really low quality.
But again.... if the plan is to make a computer based lineart on top, then maybe I should try scan them in Pencil and skip the ink.

My drawings do look much better in Pencil than they do in Ink.

Hmmmm.... I will look into it in future projects.
