Note: Any kind of political messages, no matter who posts it, will be hiden and depending on whetter it's a flaming post or not I will proceed to block that user.

Formely known as "From Russia with Love" (A James Bond movie title).
I think the new title fits better :D

I had originally uploaded this sometime early 2007 as one of my first serious works using Adobe PhotoShop, Corel PhotoPaint (For the lens flare effect) and I think it's the first drawing I made combining hand-made work with a vector.
It became pretty popular at one point.
This picture was removed (Despite I could have just "de-activated" it from my gallery) along with two other deviations (Which I'll upload soon) as a protest againt August war between Gerogia and Russia. The drawings I removed all featured russian soldiers or units in neutral or positive way. I would have removed drawing of georgian soldiers as well but... I don't have any ;) So it's not as if I was totally biased when doing this. And hell... I have the whole right to do whatever I want to do in my gallery.

Anyway... I decided this crisis between Georgia and Russia is not over but yet it has entered in a "cold" stage in which neither side can't take initiative. So I'm lifting my auto-ban on drawing russian soldiers/units (Note that is also applies for georgian soldiers/units although I'm not interested in drawing any).

Well.... this picture as it is old shows also some imperfections that have been previously noted. So constructive criticism here won't be much.... constructive :XD: C'mon... It's like criticizing the drawing I made when I was 5 years old :D (And boy those were ugly drawings).
Some of the errors made goes from the russian military rank insignia located wrongly to not having reproduced exactly the camouflage used by russian forces (And I mean it's truly hard to know what camoes are the russians using 'coz they got way too many variants). Another thing here is the lack of fingers.... I say again... old drawing. Nowadays I always try to draw the fingers although it ain't easy.

So... Here's a russian soldier holding a AK-74M/GP-30. Behind her a Mi-24P Hind about to land in the beautiful plains of souther Russia.

For those who already have faved and/or commented on this before it was removed... There is no need for you guys to do it again :)

Ok.... I'll be uploading the two other pics (Which are simple linearts) soon possibly right after this one.
I'll be replying to all your comments, journals, replies and deviations ASAP.

Until then... See'ya in the Battlefield. :salute:

Why is the shoulder straps on the collar? Yes, and even casual cut with red stripes on the field form?

It's an old picture. Did it without bothering to look for proper Russian Uniforms pictures and information. Well I did try finding some info but what I gathered was shit and old.

It's an error. I wasn't aware that the ranks were placed on the shoulders instead of the collar./Это сообщение об ошибке. Я не знал, что ряды были размещены на плечах вместо воротника.

Military ranks on a collar were till 1943, then began to carry shoulder straps on shoulders, since 2010 year the Russian field form carries a shoulder strap on a breast, in a daily and smart uniform remained shoulder straps on shoulders/Воинские звания на воротнике были до 1943 года, потом стали носить погоны на плечах, с 2010 года Российская полевая форма носит погон на груди, в повседневном и парадном мундире осталась погоны на плечах.

The Devil's Chariot was the nickname that the Mujahideen fighters gave it when Russia invaded Afgahnistan, so it's both :P

Well I'm not sure wetther it'd be fun or not (Probably because anything "funny" with women is usually banned under military regulations ;) ).

But what I am sure about is that the russian military does have female personel in its ranks: [link]

And I think Russia has one of the oldest standing military women acceptance politics in the world.

I never said otherwise - we have, just not soldiers: medics, pilots, secretatyes, inturpriters, tapers and so on! Just don`t shoot!

I can`t argue with that!

have you tried drawing the MI-28 or SU-27? ive never seen someone try it.

I made vectors of them in two different works:
You can see a Su-27SK and a Su-30MK here: [link]
And in this other pic you can find a Mi-28 although it's a low quality one: [link]

These are vectors... I'm not good at drawing planes and helicopters by hand so instead I take a screenshot from a certain aircraft in a flight simulator and then I start a process of canning the shape with the pencil tool, then I color it usually with a different livery than the actual model whose picture I used as reference (Although the one with the Su-30 and Su-27 is almost identical since the models where exactly of the birds I was intending to replicate for that work. Note 'though that most models I vectorize... are rather low quality so I do my best that the outcome looks a ton better then the original.

impressive pic. i like Russian jets and American jets to. Russian jets for their agility and looks. and american jets for their highly advanced systems and looks. (the SU-35 and F-22 take the cake in my opinion)
